Denton Craftsman
One of the benefits of Denton Texas are the historic Denton Craftsman homes the town has to offer. Denton became a county in 1846. The first original township lots were auctioned in 1857, the first courthouse was destroyed by fire in 1875, the next courthouse built where the current courthouse on the square sits. This second courthouse was condemned and ultimately demolished in 1894 and the current courthouse on the square was started in 1895 and finished in 1897. All of this due to the growing Denton population.
The prevalance of Denton Craftsman homes is also due to the stability employment provided by Denton’s higher institutions of learning. The Texas Normal college now known as University of North Texas was established in 1890 and legislation established the girl’s college of industrial arts in 1901 now know as Texas Womens University.
